The Men's Development Program provides training and competitive opportunities for beginner to elite gymnasts from ages 5 to 18.
The Development Program is organized into 10 different levels of training or competition. Each level has multiple age groups and opportunities for participation and competition. Competition is carried out at the local, state, regional and national levels through USA Gymnastics sanctioned invitational meets and championship level meets. For Development Program Levels VIII, IX and X, the season culminates at the Men's Junior Olympic National Championships held in May of each year. For Elite Level X athletes, the culminating event is the USA Gymnastics National Championships.
The Men's Development program is open to all male gymnasts, upon the recommendation of their coach or program director. Gymnasts must belong to a USAG member club, and must become athlete members of USAG to participate.
Xcel for Boys is designed to offer a broad-based, affordable competitive experience outside the traditional Jr. Olympic Program to attract and retain a diverse group of athletes.
Both the Xcel for Boys Program manual as well as a How to Start an Xcel Program for Boys guide are available as a free download from the USA Gymnastics Men's page.
The direct link to the Xcel for Boys page is: https://usagym.org/pages/men/pages/xcel.html.
Please be sure to visit the website, download the documents and review the new Xcel for Boys program. This program has tremendous potential to grow men's gymnastics in this country in a meaningful way by addressing the needs for a wide range of athletes and club programs. In addition, the Xcel program will utilize Introductory Athlete memberships for competition.
